About Us

Background of New Life Recovery Center

The New Life Recovery Program was initiated through Alpha Liberia and the AlphaCourse is one of the main program activities at the Center that is helping with the transformation process of residents. Alpha Liberia believes that an informed population of young people is critical to the recovery efforts and long-term success of the population. This is one of our cardinal projects that is geared towards remolding the minds of people struggling with drug addiction and other social problems. There is a need for an urgent intervention that will help bring this gloomy situation affecting our population to an end.

Achievements:

Since its inception, our organization has made concerted efforts to address the problem of drug addiction among youth.

These efforts include:

1. The establishment of recovery group meetings in various locations across two counties. Those meetings provide recovering addicts with group counseling and support systems which help attendees become sober and recover from their addictions. At these weekly meetings, we also provide awareness and education on the danger of substance abuse.

2. Our advocacy is focused on making the larger population aware of the dangers of drugs and concrete steps that family members can take to prevent or minimize drug use. The forms of advocacy that we currently use are. Weekly outreach programs b. Media engagements, primarily on radio7and,c. Social media presence

3. The construction of a residential rehabilitation facility in Sundaygar town, Marshall Highway, Margibi County. The group home currently has a capacity of 35 persons (Males).

4. To date, 213 persons celebrated their sobriety and have been reintegrated into society.

5. A total of 423 men and women attend the recovery group meetings weekly.

Programs and Activities at the Rehab Center:

1. Daily Bible Study – The residents initiate this—the Bible study includes a study of the word, testimonies, and prayer. Prayer meetings are also organized for larger groups. Morning and evening devotions provide additional opportunities for spiritual upliftment.

2. Alpha Course is the major spiritual and life transformation program activity that is run at the facility. It is an effective form of non-denominational evangelism. The course takes participants on a journey of faith over multiple weeks. Each session covers a key element of the gospel in a way that is easy to follow and leaves space for people to explore their questions about life, faith, and God.

3. Psycho-social counseling for individuals and groups – Residents participate in counseling that is designed to reduce local risk factors and to increase protective factors.

4. Celebrate Recovery and Self-esteem sessions.

5. Staff Training – The International Leadership Institute (ILI) has supported us in the past by providing training for staff. We constantly seek opportunities for our staff members. Many of our staff members are graduates of these types of programs and have been in recovery for many years.

6. Alcoholics Anonymous – In weekly meetings, the group conscribes the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous as it relates to drug addiction.

7. Recreation – With the goal of keeping our residents functional and mentally fit, many activities are arranged. These include sports, recreational and intellectual exchanges.

8. Weekly outreach activities – Opportunities are created for clients to go into the areas where drug users congregate and speak to them about the dangers of using drugs. Clients who have been in the program for over three months and have achieved a significant level of sobriety are expected to lead these opportunities.

9. Family Reunion – This is a crucial part of our program. We have seen that with family support, residents are less likely to relapse. However, families need to be given the opportunity and the space to heal because they have suffered emotionally with the resident. We provide opportunities for family reunions, amends, and reconciliation. It is one of our recovery steps that gives residents the opportunity to go back home, reunite with their parents, make amends, ask for forgiveness and reconciliation takes place. It happens when a resident has spent at least three months at the care facility of the New Life Recovery Center which operates the only faith-based rehabilitation center in the country.

Mission:

Transforming and restoring broken lives.
